About the project
The project aims to develop a course that teaches healthcare educators how to utilize simulation in healthcare education. Despite its underutilization due to resource constraints and lack of awareness, simulation has the potential to greatly enhance the learning experience.
The course addresses these issues by improving educators’ competencies in embedding simulation in curricula and providing cost-effective alternatives to traditional tools.
Additionally, it covers emerging technologies like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to ensure the course remains relevant in the future. The collaboration of healthcare simulation experts from various EU countries enhances the project’s quality and promotes internationalization.
Ultimately, the project seeks to empower educators, bridge the theory-practice gap, and improve patient care outcomes in healthcare education.
Objectives
Course Design
The course is a combination of theory and practice, spanning 80 hours and divided into 8 units. Each unit is prepared by two partners, with a designated tutor for each module. It is conducted in English, with teaching materials available in multiple languages.
Essential Elements of Clinical Simulation
This unit delves into the fundamental components and key principles that form the backbone of clinical simulation in healthcare education.
The different simulation modalities
This unit provides an in-depth exploration of various simulation modalities utilized in healthcare education.
Scenario Design in Simulation
This unit explores the art of scenario design in simulation-based education. Students will learn the principles and techniques for creating realistic simulation scenarios.
Basics of Feedback and Debriefing
This unit provides a foundational understanding of feedback and debriefing in the context of simulation-based learning.
Evaluation Methods in Simulation
Through this unit, students will gain the knowledge and skills needed to design and implement effective evaluation strategies to measure learning outcomes and competency development.
Simulated/Standardized Patients (SPs)
Students will learn about the recruitment, training, and effective utilization of SPs to enhance realistic patient interactions and clinical scenarios.
Implementing Simulation in the Curriculum
Students will explore strategies for incorporating simulation-based learning activities that align with curriculum goals and desired learning outcomes.
Running a Simulation Center
This unit provides comprehensive insights into the operation and management of a simulation center in healthcare education.
Technology Developed
Virtual Campus
This virtual campus will serve as a centralized hub for both theoretical content and simulation protocols. Additionally, all project-related information, including the preparation, development, and delivery of course materials by partner institutions, will be publicly available on a dedicated project platform. This platform aims to ensure complete transparency and facilitate access to high-quality educational resources for trainers worldwide, even if they are unable to participate in the pilot or the full course.
VR Platform
Our VR platform immerses students in realistic healthcare clinical cases, creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment. By replicating real-world scenarios, students can develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a safe setting. Our platform offers a diverse range of clinical cases to prepare learners for their future healthcare careers. Additionally, our unique two-way voice streaming feature enables real-time communication between teachers and students, enhancing the learning experience with immediate guidance and support.
